Segmenting endocardium and epicardium of left ventricle from cardiac magnetic resonance image (cardiac MRI), is the prerequisites for three-dimensional reconstruction of heart and cardiac function assessment. For cardiac MRI with myocardial scar, a method for segmenting left ventricular wall based on visual saliency detect location is proposed. In this method, visual saliency detecting technique and watershed transformation are applied to extract the region of the blood pool of left ventricle, and then the left ventricle is accurately located. Then extract the contour of the blood pool as the initial contour of endocardium of left ventricle. The endocardium and epicardium of left ventricle are obtained after evolution of the initial contour under the action of active contour model with shape constraints. The experimental results show that this method can more accurately position left ventricle, and the initial contour converge to the edge of the endocardium quickly, resuting in more accurate endocardium and epicardium of left ventricle and myocardial region after segmentation.
