The application of glass ionomer cement(GIC) in filling restorative treatment(FRT) is widening. However, the bacterial biofilms which form on restoration surface often make secondary caries happened, a common complication of failed FRT. As a result, the antibacterial activity of GIC is more and more concerned, which is related to kinds of its components. This article is going to discuss the components of GIC and review the recent studies about their functions on adhesion of oral microbes.
