More and more evidence manifests that chronic periodontitis(CP) is one of the risk factor of cardiovascular disease(CVD). But the biological foundation of relationship between CP and CVD is not well known. This review will briefly summarize the relevance betweenPorphyromonas gingivalis, which is most related to the occurrence of CP, and atherosclerosis, the potential role ofPorphyromonas gingivalisand Toll-like receptor in the biological foundation and mechanism of relationship between CP and CVD.
