Polymorphonuclear leukocytes(PMN) play a critical role in the process of periodontitis, including immunoprotection and immunity destruction. β -glucuronidase is a neutrophil -derived lysosomal acid hydrolase, which is an indicator of PMN influx into the gingival sulcus and is active in degradation of proteoglycans and the ground substance.
