Objective The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of Xipayiguyinye on oral bacteria in vitro and gingivitis in vivo. It will provide references for the clinical application of Xipayiguyinye. Methods The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of Xipayiguyinye on Porphyromonas gingivalis(P.gingivalis), Prevotella intermedia(P.intermedia) and Fusobacterium nucleatum(F.nucleatum) was observed by agar dilution in vitro. Also, the effects of Xipayiguyinye on gingivitis was investigated on 50 volunteers in vivo. Results It showed in this study the MIC of Xipayiguyinye for P.gingivalis and F.nucleatum was 1.0 g/L, and for P.intermedia was 0.5 g/L. There was significant difference on the sulcus bleeding index(SBI) and plaque index(PLI) before and after taking medication in the trial group(P<0.05). Also, there was significant difference on the SBI and PLI between the trial group and the controll group after taking medication. Conclusion It can be concluded from this study that Xipayiguyinye has significant bacteriostasis on P.gingivalis, P.intermedia and F.nucleatum in vitro. It could decrease the accumulation of dental plaque, reduce bleeding index and improve the healthy status of the gingiva in vivo.
