Along with the transformation of medical pattern from the traditional biomedical model to the biopsychosocial medical model, social psychic factors may contribute to the onset, progress, treatment and prognosis of the periodontal disease. Based on the latest clinical studies of the relationship between psychosocial factors and periodontal disease, psychological measurements, characteristics of the periodontal outcome measures, research design and the statistical analysis and control of the confounding factors were concretely demonstrated in this review, which made it convenient to further explore the etiological relationship between the psychosocial factors and the periodontal disease in clinical study.
