Various cytokines contained in the gingival crevicular fluid of patients with periodontal disease can be used for diagnosis. Collecting samples from gingival crevice is an easily acceptable method by both patients and doctors due to its non- invasiveness and easy to perform repeatedly. Increasing studies focused on exploration of the role of cytokines in gingival crevicular fluid demonstrate that these cytokines are useful not only for better diagnosis and prognosis of periodontal disease, but also for better guidance and evaluation of therapy. Here we report the research progress in the cytokines related to periodontal disease in gingival crevicular fluid.
