In distraction osteogenesis, researchers always focus on designing perfect distractor to accelerate bone regeneration and to shorten the course of treatment. Since the ultrasound was found, it has been widely used in medicine as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool. Low- intensity pulsed ultrasound(LIPUS) is a form of mechanical energy that is transmitted through and into biological tissues as an acoustic pressure. It has been permitted to apply in clinic to accelerate healing of fracture. LIPUS has been applied in distraction osteogenesis to enhance osteogenesis, to accelerate healing of osseous tissue, to shorten the time of therapy and to minimize the complications. The goal of this review was to present the current knowledge of LIPUS in distraction osteogenesis.
