Histidine-rich cationic polypeptides(HRPs) from human salivary glands have intim ate relationship with buccal health. Scholars did much research about histidine-rich cationic polypeptides since 80s of the 20th century, which showed that it had broad-spectrum antibacterial activity on oral fungi and cariogenic bacteria and periodontal pathogens. The article reviewed several aspects of HRPs, which included its kinds, origins, biological activities and m echanisms.
