luxS gene widely exists in a variety of pathogenic bacteria, which is the iconic gene for the formation of the autoinducer-2 molecule. It not only has the ability of quorum sensing but also plays an important role in the metabonomics. The functions of the luxS in the activated methyl cycle, and the sulfur metabolism for kinds of bacteria as well as the carbohydrate metabolism for the oral pathogenic will be introduced in this article.
