MTAD is a new kind of root canal irrigation, which is the mixture of tetracycline isomer, an acid and detergent. NaClO and MTAD have an important effect on removing smear layer. This paper reviewed the process on the aspects of NaClO and MTAD used as root canal irrigation which could remove smear layer.
