Resin composite is widely used in dentistry. However, their long-term instability of color has become one of the most disadvantages for restoration. The major influencing factors for extrinsic stainability of resin composite include the components of resin composite, the degree of conversion, colorants, surface roughness and processes for removing the stains. The object of the review is to summarize the influencing factors mentioned above.
