Objective This project aims to develop an interactive computer-assisted instruction system for oral histopathology and enhance the effectiveness of teaching based on the digital slide scanning system of Aperio Scanscope. Methods We developed the system through the following steps: 1)Preliminary investigation on user requirement; 2)Establishment of corresponding database structure; 3)Programming for terminal software and database management software; 4)Establishment of the interactive computer-assisted instruction system for oral histopathology. Results Based on the Client/Server(C/S) architecture, the system is divided into four parts: Virtual slide database, related knowledge database, interactive teaching platform, and Q&A platform. In addition, the system has ten major functions. Conclusion Strengthening the contact of computer-assisted instruction systems among branches of stomatology, enhancing the user experience, establishing the teaching resource database and corresponding management mechanism, and teaching mode reform may be the direction of the development in interactive computer-assisted instruction system in stomatology.
