Micro-arc oxidation(MAO) forms an oxide layer with porous surface and inner compact structure on the pure titanium surface. This oxide layer could significantly affect titanium-porcelain bonding strength. Technological parameters, such as pulse frequency, duty cycle, and voltage, as well as electrolyte, strongly affect the structure and property of ceramic coatings formed through micro-arc oxidation. This review presents the research advancement of micro-arc oxidation in improving the bonding between pure titanium and porcelain.
