Parathyroid hormone(PTH) is a polypeptide molecule synthesized and secreted by the chief cell of parathyroid glands and is a vital calcium-regulating hormone, which could maintain the balance of calcium and phosphorus metabolismin vivo. PTH could promote the regeneration and absorption of bone and accelerate bone turnover. Nowadays, PTH is used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in menstruating women and could decrease the rate of fracture in clinic. Moreover, researchers found that PTH could promote the concrescence and remodeling of periodontal tissue, control the absorption of alveolar bone, accelerate orthodontic tooth movement, and improve the osseointegration of dental implant by stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblast, osteoclast, periodontal ligament cell, and cementoblast. This review focuses on the progress of PTH in the regeneration and remodeling of periodontal tissue in recent years.
