CD24 is a cell surface glycoprotein expressed in pre-B cells, T cells, neurons, muscle cells, and carcinoma cells. Many researchers reported that CD24 plays an important role in inflammation, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. The function of this protein remains unclear. However, CD24 may be involved in various oral diseases. Hence, this study summarizes major findings associated with CD24 to stimulate new ideas that can be used for further research and reveal underlying links among diverse processes mediated by CD24.
