Polyethylene glycol (PEG), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyacrylic acid (PAA) and methyl cellulose (MC) were used as dispersants, and the effects of dispersant dosage on the rheological behaviors and electromotive properties of hydroxyapatite (HA) slurry were studied. The results indicated that the slurry was the typical pseudoplastic fluid which could be described by shear thinning. The rheology, electromotivity and thixotropy of the slurry could be significantly improved when 0.5% MC was added to the HA slurry. The mechanism of the effect of different dispersants on the rheology of HA slurry was also explored. Finally, the HA slurry with improved rheological and thixotropical properties was prepared successfully. The porous HA ceramics with thin porous wall and uniform porous diameter were also fabricated by the slip casting process.
