Accurate assessment of the perfusion of free flap transfers can be optimized by in time diagnosis of irreversibly compromised tissue blood flow and immediate interpretation. There is extensive literature available on monitoring techniques and methods for postoperative vessel thrombosis of the free flap transfers both in experimental and clinical setting. The advantages of the fluorescence angiography include simplicity, objectivity, convenience, perfusion quantification, and harmless to the free flap. This article gave an overview to major points of theory, application and the newest progress of fluorescein angiography.
