Membrane type（MT）-1 -matrix metalloproteinase（MMP） is a member of MMP family. It has been found in osteoclasts and osteoblasts. It plays an important role on the bone metabolism. And mt-1-mmp-deficient mice develop serious disorder of bone metabolism. Various kinds of oral disease have connection with bone metabolism and MT-1-MMP. This article reviewed the structure and function of MT-1-MMP, and effects on bone metabolism, oral development and diseases.
