Human herpesvirus (HHV)-6 is a member of the roseolovirus genus of the beta-herpesvirus subfamily of human herpesviruses. Some patients can be positive for HHV-6 before and after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Whether such patients require preventive treatment before HSCT, whether HHV-6 causes increased graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), and treatment options are currently inconclusive, and are hot topic of this research aera. In order to deepen the understanding of HHV-6 infection of patients undergone HSCT, this article introduces the aspects on molecular characteristics of HHV-6, epidemiology of HHV-6, and clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of HHV-6 infection after HSCT.
