In this study, the full length cDNAs of pig STAT1 (pSTAT1) gene was cloned using RT PCR. The cloned pSTAT1 encodes a pro protein of 757 amino acids, which shares high amino acid sequence identity with that of human (95 %), mouse (896 %), rat (908%) and cattle (916%). In addition, 3 novel mRNA splice variants of STAT1, named pSTAT1 sv1, pSTAT1 sv2 and pSTAT1 sv3 respectively, were identified in this study . RT PCR assay showed that STAT1 and 2 splice variants (pSTAT1 sv2 and pSTAT1 sv3) are expressed in all tissues examined, while pSTAT1 sv1 is abundantly expressed in spleen and Lung. These findings pave the way for further elucidation of the roles of STAT1 gene in pigs.
