The experiments show that there exists Al redissolving and inhomogeneity of precipitation as expanding the amount of YAG powder synthesis in alcohol–water co-precipitation method. Different proportions of excessive aluminum have been studied to solve the problem and the influence on the phase composition, particle size and morphologies of resultant powders. The result shows that every excessive sample turns out to be pure YAG phase while there are impure phases in ordinary samples. It is found that Al2O3 formed by the addition of excess Al inhibit the grain growth of the powders, the particle size show a tend of lessening first, then largening. It is found that Al2O3 formed by the addition of excess Al inhibit the grain growth of the powders, Al2O3 also improves to a certain extent the powder sintering activity appropriately.
