Habitat use and change of Sichuan partridge (Arborophila rufipectus) were analyzed through the plot-based monitoring program from 2006 to 2018 in the Laojunshan National Nature Reserve, Sichuan Province. The results revealed that during the breeding season, (1) There were interannual differences in site utilization. The changes of utilization ratios showed a decreasing trend from 2006 to 2012, but an increasing trend after 2012. (2) The average altitude of sites was 1 580 m±183 m, and the altitude distribution was stable. (3) The artificial forest was used at the least frequency. No significant difference between the utilization preferences of primitive forest and secondary forest was detected before 2012, but after that,A. rufipectusused more primitive forest. (4) The commonly used sites byA. rufipectuswere characterized as high altitude, gentle slope, great canopy of shrubs and bamboos, and primitive forest. It is recommended that Laojunshan National Natrure Reserve should take some measures to protect the habitat and reproduction ofA. rufipectus, including enhancing the protection of primitive forest in high altitude area, controlling human disturbance, accelerating the restoration of secondary forests, and strengthening the transformation of artificial forests in low altitude area to promote the growth of undergrowth shrubs and bamboos.
