Keratin, a kind of protein, exists widely in human and animal organs, including epidermis, hairs, wool, feather, hoof and horn. It is a natural compound material with good properties. In recent years, keratin has drawn great interest of researchers as scaffold material for bone tissue engineering. This article reviewed investigations on the structure, property, extraction and preparation of wool keratin. Various of advantages of wool keratin as scaffold material for bone tissue engineering were summarized and analyzed.
