With the increasing improvement of the living requirements and aesthetic level, as well as the rapid development of oral implantology and computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology, the fixed prosthesis which is supported by implant-zirconia abutments has been recognized widely by dentists and patients, due to its excellent aesthetic effect. Compared with the other all-ceramic materials, zirconia has better mechanical properties, except for aesthetic effect, less soft tissue reaction and plaque adhesion and good biocompatibility. Combining the literatures in China and abroad, this paper aims to discuss biological responses to zirconia abutments, clinical biological assessments, mechanical properties of zirconia abutments, aesthetic effect and clinical outcomes of zirconia abutments.
