Periapical diseases can induce apical periodontal ligament, cementum and alveolar bone destruction. The complete healing of periapical diseases includes the reestablishment of apical periodontal ligament and regeneration of cementum and alveolar bone. This review introduces the ways, mechanism and influence factors of new attachment of apical periodontal ligament after root canal therapy or apical surgery.
