Using a new lubricant with superfine WS2 powder (grain size < 500 nm), as additive, a new type of WS2 high temperature lithium complex grease was studied. This grease has fine fiction and wear characteristics such as high drop point, high oil film strength, low friction factor. It provided a new method for taking full advantage of rich tungsten resource in China. In addition, the mechanism of resistance to wear and anti-attrition of superfine WS2 powder was analyzed. The results showed that superfine WS2 powder has the lamellar structure, which can takes shearing effect along weak-bonded bedding-plane and oil micro-pool effect. Under high temperature, solid transferred films are created on worn surface, and WS2 is transformed to WO3 which can prevent being further oxidized.
