In this study, the chrome shavings were dechromed by CaO, and the parameters of CaO dechroming were optimized to reduce the hydrolysis of chrome shavings as less as possible while dechroming. The single factor experiments showed that the optimal conditions for each factor were alkali treatment time 20 h, alkali dosage 10%, alkali concentration 11 g/L; and the orthogonal experiment results indicated that the optimal process for CaO dechroming was alkali treatment time 12 h, alkali dosage 10%, alkali concentration 9 g/L, and alkali treatment temperature 25 ℃. The chrome shavings have a chromium content of 1.476 mg/g, which was 94.38% lower than the initial chromium content, and the hydrolysis rate was only 14.01% by the optimal dechroming process.
