博学好古研究与西方史学

从古希腊时代到18世纪,博学好古研究以不同于历史学、以过去事实为研究对象的独立学科而存在。它的专题论述、系统分析为主要特征的研究方法,增进关于过去的知识、力求博学的研究目的,将其与按事件顺序叙述历史事件,重视政治、军事,关注当代,以道德垂鉴为目的的传统历史学区分开来。在长达两千多年的独立发展过程中,从一开始博学好古者就与哲学家联系紧密,从文艺复兴晚期起又与自然科学家亲近。因此,博学好古研究较早地接受了新兴的近代科学精神的洗礼。18世纪,博学好古研究与历史学走到了一起,开始了融合过程。两个学科的融合标志着西方近代新史学的诞生。
