资本、现代性与社会建构——基于夏威夷王国历史的考察

中文摘要
资本是消解传统等级制社会结构,并促使新的社会结构生成的强制性客观力量,是现代性生成的根源。资本作用于能动的人,使人发生异化,进而推动社会关系的重构。作为一个殖民条件下的非西方社会,夏威夷从传统社会向现代社会的演变也是资本力量运动的结果。在资本的影响下,夏威夷开始了现代社会经济结构的建构过程,现代性转化为其内生的胚芽。接着,社会生产关系也全面改变,资本的社会建构功能发挥,在夏威夷的宗教、政治、社会等各个领域,现代性得以萌生。殖民主义在促成这一现代化道路的同时,却又把夏威夷变成殖民体系结构的边缘和附庸,并最终扼杀了它的未来。

(3)不论是作为美国历史研究的一部分,还是作为独立国家或地区历史研究的核心对象,国内外学术界对夏威夷王国历史发展的研究成果并不少见,早在20世纪30-60年代,就出现了分别以哈罗德·布莱德利的《夏威夷的美国边疆》和拉尔夫·凯肯德尔的三卷本《夏威夷王国史》为代表的一批通史和专题论著。70年代以后,受到后现代研究理论和方法转向的影响,夏威夷社会变迁问题开始得到更多关注,在分散而具体的一些主题上(经济、文化、疾病、女权等)得到比较深入的研究,例如马歇尔·萨林斯、O·A·布什尼尔·鲍林·杜金斯佳等。但这些研究一则更趋个案性,二则其理论方法往往只适用于对特定领域甚至问题的阐释,因此在对夏威夷近代社会变迁这一长时段历史进程的原动力和宏观结构演替的揭示方面缺少足够的解释性。正是在试图对夏威夷近代社会转型的宏观结构性变化进行解释的思考中,笔者重回马克思主义政治经济学,发现了资本和现代性对这一问题的可释性和合理性。此处所涉之“现代性”,是从历史分析的角度,将对“现代性”的关注置于其制度性维度,即罗荣渠先生的“现代化”概念所界定的历史发展进程及心理态度、价值观和生活方式的改变过程,以及作为表状和具象内容所呈现出来的深层趋势、持久进程和特征。亦与吉登斯作为现代化后果的“现代性”较为接近,即涉及人、事物、社会等呈现的性质或状态,各种经济、政治、社会以及文化的转型。国内学者对资本和现代性问题的研究成果很多,郑杭生、刘敬东、孙正聿、高宣扬等的文章都对笔者理解资本和现代性问题产生了影响,其中从鲁品越、骆祖望和刘同舫的文章中受益最大,在此谨致谢意。关于资本究竟如何影响夏威夷经济形态的变化,促成现代性在社会生产系统领域生成的内容,尽管构成本文所述问题的前提和基础,但因笔者已在另一篇文章《资本与传统社会现代性的培育---马克思资本理论的历史佐证》中专题论及,故此不再赘述,仅将重点置于资本力量影响下现代社会结构在夏威夷的初步衍生和发展,特此说明。
